Silicon Dioxide for Battery Separators

Silicon dioxide plays a skeleton role in the separator, accounting for nearly 60-65% of the separator. It is also a pore-forming agent for the separator. Application of Silicon Dioxide in the Food Additive Industry

1: Anti-caking agent: Silicon dioxide is directly added to milk powder and cocoa powder to play an anti-caking role. In solid beverages (because these beverages contain organic acids, citric acid, ascorbic acid, and glucose, sucrose, etc., which are easy to absorb moisture and agglomerate, losing their free-flowing properties, and at the same time causing changes in color, aroma, taste, and shape, making consumers feel disgusted), adding silicon dioxide in a specific way can avoid the agglomeration and color transfer of the beverage mixture, and ensure that it dissolves completely immediately after entering the water; SiO2 can also be used as an anti-caking agent in fast food soup (because the soup seasoning contains sodium chloride, which is easy to agglomerate, not resistant to storage, and inconvenient to eat. In order to ensure the fluidity of the seasoning, and it is also easy to disperse under humid conditions).
2: Drying agent: For example, yeast cells are living organisms that need to breathe and produce water, which affects the quality of yeast. If heating and drying is too costly, the best way is to add SiO2 to process the yeast into granules, which can absorb the water outside the yeast cells without affecting the activity and free-flowing properties of the yeast and the dry feeling when touched by hand, solving the problem of loose yeast packaging.
3: Antifoaming agent: In the past, vegetable oil was used as an antifoaming agent, but now more emulsified silicone oil (methyl polyoxane reacted with SiO2 and then emulsified to produce silicone oil) with stronger antifoaming effect is used. After ion exchange treatment in the later stage of product processing, it does not remain in the finished product.
4: Filter aid: Under acidic conditions, SiO2 can flocculate with proteins in beverages, making the mixture smaller and completely precipitating without leaving any residue. This method is used in various production processes that require clarification, such as monosodium glutamate, soy sauce, and acidic alcoholic beverages. SiO2 can also be used for decolorization of starch and syrup (colored substances are removed by adsorption with activated carbon, but before adding activated carbon, a filter aid must be added first to adsorb the colloidal substances in the syrup to improve the decolorization effect of activated carbon).
In addition, SiO2 can also be used with soybean phospholipids as a release agent, and can also be used as a coating agent for coating food and polishing unripe coffee.
